After two years of work with legislators and our state partners, SB 541 was introduced by Sen. Mike Shirkey (R-Clarklake) in early September 2017. The bill would establish a scope of practice and a licensing structure for dental therapists, including specific language to target this new professional for underserved communities and with populations that currently struggle to receive primary dental care.
Our work continues as we continue to advocate for oral health access, monitor the development of the licensing rules process for dental therapists through the state Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, and assist state educational institutions interested in developing DT programs.
